Family in French
Let’s look at immediate family members:
My in French
Notice that in English we always use “my”, whatever person or group of people we are talking about. In French, “my” takes on three different forms depending on the person or thing in question! “Ma” refers to a woman or a feminine item, “Mon” is used for a man or masculine item (or a feminine item starting with a vowel), and “Mes” is used when we talk about more than one person or item! Take a good look at the above list and begin to make the connections about gender rules and you will be half-way to understanding how French people think and speak!
