Salut, ça va?
Music is a universal language, with many identities and rhythms, and finding your way around the world of music in French is what this lesson is about. Let’s suppose you wanted to buy a CD, or ask about a particular musician - take a look at what you would say.

| How much is this CD please? | Ce CD est combien s’il vous plait? |
| Do you stock classical music? | Avez-vous de la musique classique? |
| Do you have rock music? | Avez-vous de la musique rock? |
| I am looking for music by Jack Johnson, do you have any? | Je cherche du Jack Johnson, en avez-vous? |
You might notice a couple of interesting (or puzzling!) points here. The word for music becomes “feminine” in French! This is because French has distinctions for every single name or noun, and all of them are either masculine or feminine in gender. Weird, but absolutely true!

Another point is that when you are asking about a musical artist, as in Jack Johnson, this becomes “some” in French, or “du”. For example, you could say “du Brel”, “du Pink Floyd” or “du Tchaikovsky”!
Here are some useful words when listening to music at home, in the car or at a concert.

À très bientôt! (See you very soon!)
