Welcome to the Rocket German Newsletter Series! In today’s newsletter you’re going to learn useful words and phrases that you will need when checking in at the airport. To start with being able to understand the airport signs will make you feel more relaxed with German. But that’s not all. You might want to know how long the flight is, whether they will serve a hot meal, whether you can have an aisle seat and much more. Let’s start with the basics. |

Now, here are the important questions that you will need when checking in at the counter (“der Schalter”). Listen to each word and its English translation and repeat the words aloud.

When do I have to be at the gate? | Wann muß ich am Gate sein? |

How long is the flight? | Wie lange ist der Flug? |
|
How long is the stop over? | Wie lange ist der Zwischenstop? |
|
Will you serve a hot meal? | Werden Sie eine warme Mahlzeit servieren? |
|
Is the flight very busy? | Ist der Flug sehr voll? |
|
Do I need a visa? | Brauche ich ein Visum? |
|
How long is the visa valid for? | Wie lange ist das Visum gültig? |
|
How many pieces of luggage can I take? | Wie viele Gepäckstücke kann ich mitnehmen? |
Some people prefer window seats, some want to sit close to the aisle. I always ask for a window seat, that way I can get a first impression of the city we are going to land in, from above. Whichever one you prefer, here are the German words for it…
