The audio lessons are presented very well. They are by far the best part of the program. The written tests and multiple choice tests work fine. The interactive voice tests are sometimes glitchy. As others have said, the website and iOS app can sometimes have issues. The iOS app is not as quite as fully functional as the website, but still pretty good. Overall, I'm happy with the program. I suspect it will continue to get better with time. I'm not disappointed with my purchase.
Nice try period , Enough information to choose to get the package at the end of it. Very clear presentation, i have fun and get a lot of enjoyment . Language and culture parts are well done , games give confidence in language acquisition
The combination of the online tools and the ability to listen to the lessons whilst doing other things provides a really powerful learning combination. I particularly value the ability to watch and listen to my own attempts and compare them with a good French speaker!
I love the dialogues. They help you develop your listening and speaking skills rocket fast. Unlike the Pilmsleur approach that I have also used, Rocket languages also has the reinforcement activities where you get additional listening, speaking and writing practice so you learn to spell correctly and pay attention to accent marks and special characters.
I am giving it a 4 out of 5 because in my opinion the price is pretty steep (I can get the Pilmsleur CDs for Portuguese level 1 for $34 in ebay) and I feel for that price it should also include some grammar videos with activities and reading comprehension to make it more well rounded.
I like RocketLanguages' overall approach, but I don't like that the Test area only accepts one answer. Sometimes there are multiple correct answers, and those should be revealed as correct answers as well. Another thing that could be improved is the amount of content from previous lessons that's interspersed into later lessons. The quizzes in particular should test knowledge from previous lessons as well as the current lesson.
I am satisfied with the service and I have a suggestion what can be improved further. I like the idea of a comprehensive course available at any time. What I miss is downloadable audios - not the dialogues, but the phrases. The phrases are extremely important and helpful in learning a language. I could easily skip dialogues (I don't), let alone those long 25-minute audios with lots of talk in English (enjoyable but mostly waste of time to be honest, too much of unnecessary chatter). So far I have been sitting in front of my monitor for hours to learn the language, staying focused which is a key to learning. But this is such a luxury which you only enjoy in rare periods during your annual cycle. Most of the time you end up downprioritising the language course due to other urgences. I could use recorded phrases - all of them in a lesson or, even better, those I mark with a star for my own collection which also is a nice service - to listen to them while I have no time to sit down at my desk.
It is extremely difficult to find a good course for learning Japanese, or any non-european language in general online. Language courses are too often grammar rulebooks where you simply memorize the words. Rocket Languages, or at least the Japanese course is not at all like this. It provides a natural and intuitive learning structure that encourages you to listen and speak the language from an early stage. It is very well paced, so you come away from each lesson with a moderate understanding which you then build on throughout the course. I think this is a far better method than forcing you to know everything perfectly before moving on to the next part. When you do learn grammar, you have already used it in realistic sentences and heard it in conversations, so you have a feel of how it works. This also makes the learning process more enjoyable. Now the negatives. The 'Rocket Reinforcement activities' are great, but I find they are a bit repetitive after a while, I do wish there was more variety in the excercises. They do suggest good practices, such as using the language in books, video games, ect. but don't actually give any resources to do so yourself, something I have found other courses do much better.
I recently was introduced to your programme from my local library. It has been both informative and helpful! I really enjoy the useful vocabulary and informative cultural tips. It is very very very very very very very very cool!!!!
I love the course. However, during this pandemic I can't afford it.
