Country Profile: Argentina - By Mauricio Evlampieff

Jump Menu:

One of the first things that come to mind when I think of Argentina is the fantastic cuisine I’ve experienced in this beautiful country. Mainly, I’m talking about their beef. Argentinean steaks are truly magnificent, delicious, and by far the best I’ve ever had in my life.

There are so many other wonderful things I remember from Argentina: the beautiful rich structure of their cities, salespeople bargaining until the wee hours, the awesome nightlife, and, of course, the beautiful and friendly people.

Argentina has an extensive European influence, which makes it a joy for many tourists, who feel that they can blend in without standing out so much like a tourist.

Although Argentina was recently hit by a demoralizing economic disaster, it is once again finding its footing. Its recent problems have by no means affected its attraction to people wanting to get to know this picturesque destination.

Argentina is the second largest country in South America, with a population of nearly forty million people. About one third of its population lives in its capital, Buenos Aires, which is one of the largest cities in the world.

Some of my favorite places to visit in Argentina are Iguazú Falls, Mar del Plata, and of course the capital city.

Iguazú Falls with its spectacular waterfalls are a “must see” when you visit Argentina. Many people visit this region to play photographer, as the waterfalls are surrounded by a 55,000 hectare (135,907 acres) nature reserve and forest, which is inhabited by a number of subtropical plant life and animal species.

The second place that I enjoy going in Argentina is Mar del Plata, situated about 400 kilometers away from Buenos Aires. I love the sea, and Mar del Plata is a fantastic spot to catch the sun and the waves. Also, I always take the chance to do a bit of shopping. There are a number of attractions in Mar del Plata, including nightclubs, a great variety of restaurants, private resorts, and much, much more.

From here I always end up in Buenos Aires. What a place! It’s fantastic to visit as long as you don’t mind rubbing shoulders with millions of people. Shop till you drop, eat until you can eat no more, dance until sunrise, and enjoy the party that is Buenos Aires.
