Hi Laura, Thanks for your question. Becoming truly fluent in any language can take a long time, and of course it depends on how much time an individual has to devote to the language learning process, and how quickly they retain the information they are taught. In saying that, at the completion of the Rocket Sign Language course, you should be at the stage where you are comfortable holding basic conversations in Sign. I hope this helps!

My books say about five years for the average person, but I've seen people get obsessed with learning more and make friends in the Deaf community and become fluent in a couple of years. It can be an addictive atmosphere. I practice signing songs at red lights, make lists of unfamiliar words, keep regular practice schedules whenever possible, and enjoy the company of Deaf friends and students that I meet.
