Hello, are there any ASL veterans out there? I know ASL pretty well now and I’m wondering whether I can attend a Deaf Community event? Do I have to be invited, or can I offer to volunteer? I’d like to get involved with the Deaf community, as I’m interested in committing some of my time to a Deaf organization. I’m pretty proficient at the language and think I could do some good for the group. Are there any websites for Deaf Community groups in the United States? I live in Maryville and I’m not sure how to approach a group. Does anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated, Susan Meyers from Maryville, Texas.

Susan,
My name is Shawna and I am the moderator for a Deaf and HoH forum on the internet. First I would like to say that ASL is not a pre-requisite for being involved with the Deaf community. It certainly helps but it isnt a factor. I would check the new for events and such with your local Deaf community. If you are interested in the forum message me and I will give it to you.
