Study order is unclear

I am working through the modules of the Arabic lessons in numerical order: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. In the 1.1 Audio section test, there is a test involving writing (i.e. listen to the sentence, then write the answer). How am I supposed to know how to write without having gone through a writing lesson yet? I don't even know the alphabet yet. Am I doing my lessons in the wrong order? I didn't find much info on the site about the order in which to take lessons and am very confused. Thanks, Emily

Hi Emily, thanks for your post. We try to be flexible with our courses, so there is no set-in-stone way of progressing through the lessons. I recommend following the Study Plan format initially, until you become familiar with the types of lessons included in the course, taking the Tests as you go. After that, you will probably have a better idea of what suits you better. One thing the Study Plan doesn't include is the Games (see the drop down list). So if you feel like mixing things up a bit, you could check them out and try to get through a level or two.

The thing that Rocket Languages doesn't tell us but we all seem to discover over time is that for every "Interactive Audio" lesson (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, ...) there are one (and sometimes two) corresponding "Language & Culture" lessons (1.5, 1.6, 1.7, ...). So, a logical progression is to do them in pairs, specifically do the first IA lesson (1.1) along with the first LC lesson (1.5) followed by the next IA lesson (1.2) along with the next LC lesson (1.6), and so on. I add another wrinkle and prefer to do the LC lesson first before doing the IA lesson. For languages like Arabic and Japanese where the writing tests require knowledge of the writing script (Hiragana in Japanese), you may want defer working through those tests until you have worked through the writing lessons. The nice thing is we can do whatever suits us. Still, I suggest Rocket Languages change the recommended order to go IA lesson, then LC lesson, then next IA lesson and so on. Right now it suggest you complete all IA lessons on that row followed by all LC lessons on that row.

I had emailed with a similar question and was also told to wait on the writing lessons until I was comfortable with the alphabet.

I like the freedom of being able to mix and match according to my needs, but like Robert C7, I do the LC before I do the IA as sometimes the IA contains testing for some of the vocabulary in LC.
