Text problems in beginner course

gloonieThu, 30 Jul 2009 00:41:48 -0500
Hi,

I'm not sure this is where to post corrections - please tell me if another forum is better. I found a couple of mistakes in the course in section 1.6 Where are you from?

1. In the "Personal Pro-nouns" subsection.
- "Pro-nouns" should be "Pronouns" without the hyphen (it is a ssingle word)
- The English for E7na should be "We" not "Us", since we're talking about subject pronouns here.

2. In the "Writing" subsection.
- "One Thru Ten" would be better as "One Through Ten"
- The numbers in Arabic are missing: only the transliterations and the English are visible. I thought this might
be a browser problem, but I looked at the HTML source and the Arabic entries are missing.
- The sentence "As you can see, some of the Arabic numbers look quite similar to English numbers, but
sometimes they’re back to front (4= 4) or in the wrong place (5= 5)." doesn't make sense with the examples in
parentheses.

Hope this helps,

Glenn

Same to me. I reported it to support but not answer at all...

Also the text is saying:
Quote:

In most cases Arabic numbers look quite similar to their English equivalent,

This is very surprising to me. I found East-Arabic numbers from other source, and they look very different, or if they look similar they represent different number then expected. For example:
٤ looks like inverted 3 but it is 4
٥ looks like 0 but it is 5
٦ looks like 7 but it is 6

only ١ and ٩ look familiar to me...

On one page I also found what in some Arab countries "Latin" looking numbers are used.
Could someone please explain it?

Best,
Arek

Hi Arek,

thanks for your post.
I wonder whether you receive my emails? It seems like they might not be getting through as I haven't heard back from you?
Could you please send me a private message with your address so I can check whether I have the correct one?
That way you don't have to publish it on the forum.

Thanks a lot.

I've also noticed some spelling errors. On one example in the "writing" section, eggs has been spelled "beid" AND "bied." also, apricot was once spelled "mishmsih" instead of "mishmish".
