Hi Z-man,

What parts of lessons 2 & 3 you stuck on? The tones or the words? One thing to remember when learning Mandarin is that it is using initials and finals for the words, ( N i) a combination of words to make word (Ni hao) and the tones. They don't tell you this in the begining of the lessons. (This is still a good program for the money.)

I have chart I made up with the intall and finals. I also had a Chinese friend of mine check it to be sure it was right. I can send you a copy, but I'm not sure if they will let us share e-mails or not on here. (zyclooner@yahoo.com)
I hope i don't get booted off of here.

There are a few Chinese people here where I live. I begin my tutoring tomarrow with a couple that own a restaurant. if you have any Chinese people in your area. you will be surprized that there are a few willing to help you. showing them you have a interest in thier language and culture. They are willing to help. You will learn faster with thier help.

stuff me in your suit case so i can go see my girl in China.

I wish you a happy and safe trip.

Hi Z Man
I've been living in the northern part of China for around 2 years. I can tell you, even living here, I find learning Mandarin challenging. Each region has its own dialect which also confuses the newcomer. Sometimes I feel I am stuffing my head with information to the point where I can no longer absorb anymore! However, like all learning curves, just when I become totally exasperated, I have a "good day" where the language falls off my lips without me having to think too hard.

China is a fascinating place - let me know if you want any tips for when you are over here as I am more than happy to assist. My direct email is abatlarge@hotmail.com.

Cheers

Kathie
