Ciao! I have a few questions about Lesson 1.4 Restaurant. 1.) Mangiamo is translated as 'we eat' and andiamo is translated as 'we go'......Does that mean that whenever one is to say 'we' with a verb, that the verb needs to have the ending 'iamo'? 2.) One of the sentences in this lesson is:" Cucino in modo locale e tradizionale"? How is this translated? ex. cooking in a local manner? (I tried to figure this out in my Italian dictionary). 3.) How do you translate 'alle' and 'alla'? Grazie!

Ciao Jena, I'm just learning myself but if you shoot across to Lesson 2.8 you will find a list explaining 'alle' and 'alla' the combining of 'the+of' or 'the+a/at'. And Lesson 3.9 gives some examples of verb endings ie: I speak, you speak, we speak etc. Hope this helps Fran

Ciao Jena, I apologize for the delay in my reply. 1) yes, you are correct : when you want to conjugate an Italian verb at the present tense, you need to take out from the infinitive of the verb the end -are, -ere or -ire (ex: parl -are, legg -ere, dorm -ire). Then you will need to add the endinng for the present tense which are: 1) -o example : io parl -o 2) -i tu parl -i 3) -a lei/lui parl -a 4) -iamo noi parl -iamo 5) -ate voi parl -ate 6) -ano loro parl -ano 2) "Cucinano in modo locale e tradizionale"? can be literally translated as "they cook in local and traditional way" but in English it translates better as "the do local home-made style cooking" 3) 'alle' and 'alla' can be mainly translated as "at the" or "to the". The are the union of the preposition "a" + "le" (feminine plural article) and "a" + "la" (feminine singular article). As in the example in lesson 2.8 : Per andare alla banca per favore? (banca is a feminine singular noun) To go to the bank please? i hope this helps. Buon divertimento Ciao

Ciao Maria Luisa, "bel, bello, bella, belli, belle" are all adjective meaning "handsome, beautiful, nice". Depending on the gender of the noun that follows you will need to use: -bello ( masc. sing) = in front of a masculine noun beginning with s,z (followed by consonant) gn,pn,ps, x Example : il calcio e' un bello sport (soccer is a nice sport) -bel (masc. sing.) = in front of a masculine noun beginning with all other consonants Example: quello e' un bel negozio (that is a nice shop) -bell' (masc. and fem. sing) = in front of a noun beginning with a vowel Example: Che bell'uomo! (What a handsome man!) Che bell'amica che sei = (what a handsome friend you are) -bella (fem. sing.) = in front of a feminine noun beginning with a consonant Example: abbiamo passato una bella serata (we spent a nice evening) -begli/bei (masc. pl.) begli = in front of a masculine noun beginning with z,s (followed by consonant),gn, pn, ps,x or a vowel Example: Che begli occhi che hai (what a beautiful eyes you have got) bei = in front of a plural masculine noun starting with all other consonants Example: hai comprato dei bei quadri (you bought some nice paintings) -belle = in front of a plural feminine noun Example: Lei ha scritto delle belle frasi (she wrote some beautiful sentences) "bene" can mean "good" or also "well" depending on the meaning of the sentence. Example : -fare del bene = to do good -tu parli molto bene l'italiano = you speak Italian very well "This is a very good course" will be translated in Italian as " Questo e' un buon corso". I hope this helps. Buon divertimento! Ciao
