Mnemonics can be useful for some things, but overusage of them is not advised...

Really curious, how can you overuse them?

Using Mnemonics here and there to remember things is helpful and usually will allow you to remember things a lot quicker. However, like grammar rules, having too many at once to use to learn something can confuse you and make a bigger mess than it was worth in the first place. Overall, I'm not saying Mnemonics are bad per say, but I'm just saying be careful... you could cause yourself a headache.

:) Quite an interesting view to worry beforehand. If you can't manage at the moment - just stop and it's not only about mnemonics but any other learning technique. I am a visual learner, so for me mnemocis work wonder. I was studying hiragana by writing sheets for a very long time but kept forgetting some characters, then I found mnemonic explanation and it took me 10 minutes to memorise all of them without mistakes.

If you can't manage at the moment - just stop... That creates a new problem... when to restart... also that is easier said than done.

Konnichiwa Elena-san, As Derek-san has noted, mnemonics work for some, and not for other. However, if you're a visual leaner, perhaps it IS the study method for you. There's some fantastic books by Michael Rowley called "Kana Pict-o-Graphix: Mnemonics for Japanese Hiragana and Katakana" and "Kanji Pict-O-Graphix: Over 1,000 Japanese Kanji and Kana Mnemonics " Check out the following links: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1880656183?ie=UTF8&tag=zonjineko-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1880656183 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0962813702?ie=UTF8&tag=zonjineko-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0962813702 - Sayaka ;)
