The module tests are fantastic! Great work Rocket!!

The module testing is very nice, except for one thing: One's work can't be saved. I thought I'd work through the modules from the beginning until I reach my present location. So doing, I did Module 1, Hear it and Write it. I ran out of time anddecided to stop for now. When I went to leave that page, I was asked if I wanted to leave, as I had unsaved work. Unfortunately, there was no way to save my progress, and now it's as if I had done none of the testing. There needs to be a way to save one's work.

I was aware that each module will take about 30 minutes, so I just pretend that I am taking a real test and allowed the time for it. It works for me.

I took my first module test yesterday. I wish there was some way to see how I scored on each section. Also, will the questions be different every time or by "random" do they mean the same "random" selection every time. I like the feature.

How do you find the module tests? Is it something new or do I just not recognize the name of something I'm already doing?
Robert-C7

At appears under "My Study Plan" on the dashboard. There are big round circles labeled "Rocket Test" and "Module 1", etc.. If you click on it, it will take you to the module test page.

Hi all - Thanks for the feedback. There is another thread about this here.

Hi Robert - Good suggestion re section scores. I will add to the wishlist for future development.

The words/phrases are randomized every time a test is taken.

The program stopped working in the "Know It" portion of the very first Test Module and I've lost 2 attempts at completion. Is this unique to Rocket Spanish, or have others had this problem?
Steven-W15

I've taken these tests quite a few times and have not experienced this. I would inform Rocket Languages support, indicating the module test, the web browser you're using and a print screen of the error condition if possible. I'm sure they'll be able to help.

I experienced my computer stopping while I am in the middle of a module test. I waited and it resumed. I just blamed my computer. My computer is old and maybe have viruses infestation. While doing lesson, I just reboot (restart) when it is getting problematic and usually is okay. I told my husband I need a new computer to be able to take the rest of the module tests.

Maybe he'll get you one for Christmas. :)

I decided my problem was Internet Explorer. When I run it with Chrome, everything's fine. However, I do like the "I need a new computer" ploy!

Upon returning home from a trip and logging into Rocket Spanish I was excited to see the new feature. I thought it would be a great additional feature to evaluate how well I am learning, plus I thought that going back to level one and doing the test would be a great review. So I did the module 1 testing this morning, and I am sad to say that I am extremely disappointed. First, as others have said, not being able to save and return to my work is a serious flaw. All sorts of web sites allow registered users to save their work, log out, log back in, and resume where they left off. Your coders need to learn this trick. Second, I notice that I can select the appropriate grade for myself in Hear It and Know it, but not in Write it. In several places when I properly used a tilde or enya, the "correct" answer included code which, I supposed (though I could not tell) I was counted wrong on. Third: the program was slow to respond, such as when I would click on a new phrase, the voice recording would not respond for some time. Finally, and most egregiously, when I finally worked my way through the test and submitted my answers, the little "working" icon spun and spun and spun. I went and did errands for an hour and came home to a still spinning icon. The site was not responsive at all, and I lost all my work. I am a big proponent of Rocket Languages, but you missed the mark on this "upgrade." It looks like Microsoft Syndrome to me: throw a half-baked product out there and then fix it later as users complain of problems. Rocket Languages is better than this! If I may, I suggest that in the future you select a few users to test new upgrades before they are released, and I volunteer in advance to be one of them.

Hi Dan - Thanks for your feedback. Here is my feedback on your feedback.

First; it was a conscious decision to make it so the Test has to be done in one sitting. We have schools using Rocket Languages that require that the testing be done this way. In the future we will look into changing that for non-school/student members.

Second; If you could send a screenshot what you mean here to support then we can see what is going on. I personally have been through much of Rocket French and haven't seen a similar issue.

Third; The odd phrase does seem to take a while to load. We are looking into this issue.

Fourth; That sounds like a one-off internet issue. I haven't heard of anyone else with this issue. If it happens again please let us know.

We generally use a mix of in-house versus out-of-house people to do our testing. In the past we have used existing members as part of that. I will keep it in mind for future developments.

I've done a couple now and haven't noticed any problems. It doesn't take terribly long to complete a test, so I don't mind the not saving now that I know that's how it works. I just have to make sure I have a block of time before I start. I would like to see my wrong answers though on the quiz section.

This new feature has turned out to be a terrific way for me to review / reinforce the material. And I find that not knowing where I made mistakes pushes me to perfect everything, so I like the module tests as they are now. One welcome addition (for me personally) would be to add a test to encompass the entire course. Again, it would be one more way to help master the material.

I agree with Steven. Sort of like a final exam.
Byron-K21

I like the final exam idea too. Not knowing my mistakes isn't that big of a deal. I'm willing to withdraw it. Ninety percent of my errors are getting the case and gender right for articles.

I am fine not seeing the questions and answers after the test. However, I would like to be able to see how I scored on each section. In addition, another user suggests that we have a "report error" button we can click if we see things like garbled text, particularly in the "writing test". I think there are problems when the first word starts with an accent (Spanish) or a diacritic (Chinese).
Steven-W15

I absolutely agree for the inclusion of a "report error" button.

Hi Have completed first two module tests - no problem - tried the third module test yesterday and found the "tutor" saying two lines at the same time so it was very garbled - left it for the day and thought I'd try again today and am finding the same problem - anybody else experiencing this?
Shelley-R

Shelley-R

Hi, Carmel! Have you tried it with a different browser? My problems stopped when I switched from IE to Chrome.
Dan-H24

Dan-H24

Jason: this is what Write It returns for some answers: sábado and in the Know It section it gives the answer: niño, extraño Obviously there is a coding error that does not recognize accented vowels. And again, there is no way to override the scoring in Write It, so I am being inaccurately marked down for this answer (I think).
Carmel-N

Carmel-N

Thanks for replying Shelley - tried Chrome and it worked well until I got to the quiz section - I completed three lots of quiz questions and then the test stopped and woudn't go any further - I am just about ready to give up on this!

Carmel - I wonder if you are using a wireless connection. Perhaps it is not all that stable. Perhaps Rocket Languages can allow one to resume a module test where you left off. Corporate training software works this way by check-pointing progress.

Hi all - Sorry to hear about the issues you have been having Carmel. Please email customer support outlining in as much detail as possible what has been happening.

We are working on changing a few things to reflect the feedback that we have been getting from members. Watch this space!

Hi Jason,

Has there been another upgrade recently? I'm sure there were individual scores for each section of the module final tests a few months ago, but not anymore? Also I had one mistake in the quiz section, and a score of 4/25 flashed up briefly. Not sure what happened there, but the final colour for my quiz is purple.

What I wish could really be done is to ask the questions entirely in the language we are learning based on what is in the module. It will make it harder and specifically force us to learn more.

Thank you for the feedback Tony; I will forward your message to the Development team for their consideration.

Cheers.

Susan-- The quizzes are given as five batches of five questions each, and right as you finish, it shows your total number correct for the last batch; this is presumably an error.
