Can someone please clarify use of este, estos and éste, ésta? Is estos used generally for "these" whether mas or fem? Thanks. (From RS, lessons on shopping and bargaining).

Este=this - ej. Este número = this number Estos = these ej. Estos numeros = these numbers Éste /ésta = pronoun - this one - ej. Es éste. = It's this one Estos is for plural "these" and for plural masculine and / or masc and fem together. ej: estos garbanzos y judias verdes. These garbanzo beans (chick peas) and green beans. Estas is plural fem. ej. Estas judias verdes estan podridas. These green beans are rotten. Hope that helps Charles

Also remember Este also means east!! as in "Camina hacia el este"...Walk to the east. And for "these" you can use: Este for masc and Èsta (fem)...also Estos (masc) and Èstas (femenine)...Estás (with the accent on the "a") means "are" or "you are".... saludos desde México!

Thanks Cristian for the additional info! Note: Este and esta are demonstrative adjectives and in general translate to "this" unless used with a plural noun without "s" like esta gente = these people. Otherwise it is esta persona = this person or este lugar = this place. Charles
