J’espère que la cérémonie vous a plu. Can you please tell me if this should be - vous avez plu???????????? or the reason why it is vous a plu?? Thanks Sandie

Bonjour Sandie! "J'éspère que la cérémonie vous a plu" is correct. It remains 'vous a plu' because it is the ceremony that is 'doing the pleasing' and therefore is conjugated in the third person singular. And remember who is it (the ceremony) pleasing? Vous. If we were to replace la cérémonie with 'elle' it may make it clearer: "J'éspère qu'elle vous a plu." - I hope you enjoyed it. (or literally: I hope it pleased you.) J'éspère que cela vous aide! - I hope this helps (you)! :) - Marie-Claire

Merci Marie-Claire I need to look and think a little further, I do have a problem at times with this concept, but it will become clearer the more I use it. Thank you very much your response has clarified it very well, I just need to think about what is being said a little more. Sandie
