Salut, I'm really enjoying the course, thank you. One thing I'm curious about is the pronunciation of names, and also the French spelling. For instance, does Mark become Marc? Would someone be so kind as to provide the spellings and pronunciations for the following names? Charles Mark Margaret Toby Amber Hannah Julie Ruth Anthony Ones like Mark and Anthony seem quite straight forward, but I'd like to make sure all the same. :)

Hi there, the thing with names is that a lot of common English names are not very common in French speaking countries. If English names are used and they don't have a French equivalent then usually only the pronunciation changes. Charles - Charles/ Charlot Mark - Marc Julie - Julie Anthony - Antoine ( Antwan) both "a" sounds are like the "a" in "fast" when said with a British accent. Other common names are: Jean Eric Luc Patrick Philippe Claude Anne Aimée Amélie I hope that helps. :P

It does, Marie, merci. I had the fortune of having dinner with a French family a couple of weeks ago and was called "sharl", so at least that sorted one thing out. Margaret (English) - Margaux (French) I was basically just wondering how I would introduce friends and family when I'm in France. It would seem funny to me speaking French and then suddenly using my Queen's English accent to say a name. I don't really know what's the done thing. I could guess at how a French person might say it. Might have some fun with that. Haha.

Hi there, yes, I can imagine that it would sound quite funny, but then again if that's the way you say the names correctly than that's good. :P
