WHY SHOULD IT BE 'UNE TARTE AUX POMMES' (WHY AUX) AND NOT 'DES' ?

i guess so aux refers to one person and (des) refers to several aux --------- one des --------- several or some

Bonjour Tracy. The word "aux" is a contraction of "à + les". Often foods such as this use "à la" or "aux" when describing for example what kind or flavor of pie or ice-cream it is. J'espère que cela vous aide - I hope this helps! À la prochaine! - Marie-Claire
