Informal negation question

Bonjour Tout le monde

I have just been going through lesson 13.8 and I am understanding it but one of the negations slightly confused me. It's this one here:

Il y a plus de lait dans le frigo.
There is no more milk in the fridge.

I see you have gotten rid of the 'ne' but does the sentence still read like a negative? I would translate this now as 'There is more milk in the fridge' I think this statement still needs 'il n'ya' I am probably wrong and would really appreciate an explanation why people would understand this as a negative sentence.

thanks

Richard

Salut Richard,
This is in the informal section of negatives. It's really common for people to drop the ne - so therefore the context of Il y a plus de lait would let you know that they mean there is no more milk in the fridge. When the ne is dropped, the second part of the negation is left in - ie il y a PLUS de lait dans le frigo - the PLUS is pronounced differently in the negative ( the s is silent) to how it is said in the positive - Il y a encore plus de lait dans le frigo (with the s in plus pronounced) - would mean that the is more milk in the fridge.
J'ai pas d'amis = Je n'ai pas d'amis
J'ai plus d'argent - je n'ai plus d'argent - plus without s pronounced = negative
j'aime pas ce film - je n'aime pas ce film
Tu l'as plus? = Tu ne l'as plus?
I hope this helps
Bon courage !
