Failed to get this meaning out of the lesson: "I speak only English" It seems to literally translate "I do not speak that English". can anyone offer an explanation?

I apologize for the confusion.
The French way of saying that you only speak English is
Je ne parle que l'Anglais
Perhaps it helps if you remember it as "I don't speak (any other language) apart from English"
