Would you ever use "Mes compliments" to greet anybody? Is it too formal? Thanks! Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, thank you for your post. Mes compliments is not too formal, it actually isn't a greeting but giving a compliment. For example: a friend introduces me to her very smart and good looking boyfriend. To congratulate her, I'll say "mes compliments", a bit as a joke. If you want to greet someone in a VERY formal way, you could say "salutations". Most people just say "bonjour" or "bonsoir". All the best Claire
