test question

Je suis un peu confus. One of the questions that I missed on one of the early tests was: What is the French word for "little"? One of the choices was "peu" and another was "petit" I choose "little" which was marked as wrong. However, depending on the context, one or the other could be correct, n'est pas? Un petit chien, Un peu du vin. Merci, pour votre attention.

Ooops! I meant to write that I clicked on "petit" for my answer which was marked incorrect. Coques

Salut coques!

"Little" can be translated in different ways depending on the context.

If it's an adjective, you will say "petit" (masc.) or "petite" (fem.)

example: Le petit garçon prépare le déjeuner. (The boy is preparing lunch)
Tu as une petite maison ( you have a small house)

or if it's an adverb, you will say "peu"

example: Je suis un peu fatigué (I'm a bit -little- tired)

I hope this helps
