It was mentioned to me the other night that there is no equivalent for 'of' in french. However I thought that 'de' translated to 'of'. Any thoughts? Hew

Hi there,

you can never really translate a language 1:1 into another language. You loose all the language specific little quirks. Generally you could say that "de" has a similar function to "of" in a lot of situations. However you will find that there are some words without any equivalents, simply because the concept doesn't exist in both languages.
