Hallo Alle !! I´m planning to visit West Austria (Innsbruck and arround) in a few days, I'm kind scared to put in practice what I´ve learned so far (just lessons 1.1 to 1.4) I wonder if the accent in those places is quite different from what we hear in the course (german accent I suppose). Thanks.

Hi Karl, I'm sure you will enjoy Innsbruck. It's a lovely area and apparently the weather has been great this summer. Now to your question. The accent in Austria is actually quite different. It's just like with English, for example American English and Scottish English sound so different, but it's still the same language. You learn so called "high German" in the course, so people will understand you no matter what accent they have themselves. If you have mastered all the lessons up to 1.4 then I'm sure you will have no problems having a basic conversation, booking a hotel, asking how much something costs, ordering a drink and talking about where you are from. Just try to use your German, it's a great opportunity to practice. Enjoy your trip! I would be really interested to hear how you get on. Viel Spaß! :D Nathalie P.S.: By the way... it's more common in Austria to greet someone by saying "Grüß Gott" rather than "Guten Tag". P.P.S.: One sentence you might also find useful is "Können Sie bitte langsamer sprechen?" (Could you please speak slower).

Did you have a chance to go to Wien? It's a beautiful place...

I went to Vienna 4 years ago in another trip and I've got in love with that city, I strongly recomment it. This last trip I visited the East-North part of Austria (Feldkirch, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Linz) I love them all !!
