German movies as an educational source.

Anyone seen any good German movies. I recently watched a movie called 'Die Welle'. Really good film! A definite recommendation from me. I also saw, 'Die Edukators' a while back. Also really liked it.

It made me wonder what else there was out there. Anyone else have any good films to recommend. 'Lola Rennt' is probably my favourite german film. Very clever idea. And also has the amazing Franka Potente in it.

Hallo,
na, wie geht's?
You can find some posts about German Television and Radio stations in the "Language Resource" section of this forum.
You might be interested in that as well.

Hello Paul,

I just purchased Rocket German on line and am enjoying it. I live in Vancouver area of British Columbia Canada. I am of Scottish/English (plus a little bit of German) decent. I was wondering if you know of a place in Vancouver, BC where I could buy or rent DVD's that come in the German and English language with both subtitles?

Or do I have to buy German DVD's from Germany? But then I am worried about the different "Regions". Canada is region 1 coding of the DVD's, and Germany is "region" 2 coding. So I am not sure if German DVD's would play in my older DVD player? What is my best solution to play DVD's with German audio and subtitles in Canada?

Guten Tag.

Die Brücke is a good old movie and mostly children so no hard German words. Also, deutsche welle has a few videos.

7 Swerge is good. 7 Dwarves, but its a modern comedy version.

"Das Leben der Anderen" and "Die Fälscher" are both fantastic movies. Both won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

Aimee and Jaguar is a superb period piece with great acting, music and cinematography. Beautiful true love story.
