I'm learning German because I have an interest in languages. I am Colombian but raised in the U.S. My whole family speaks Spanish and it got me thinking. Since I know Spanish and I speak English(mostly ), then why not learn another language? I am currently taking Spanish in school which was a bad idea, I just wanted an easy A but it wasn't until this year when I realized that instead of being lazy, I should actually learn more. Only one of my friends is taking German in school, and when we speak, he randomly throws in German sentences to practice. So I decided it would be cool to actually understand what he says and respond back. So that is essentially what got me interested in German. I want to become a classical musician(I am in 10th grade right now, going to be in 11th in a few months), and from what I understand and who I have spoken to, they seem to travel a lot. So I decided to also learn as many languages as possible. My goal is to speak 5 languages (more if possible) but 5 minimum. German is my third language so far and it is going very well thanks to this program. Sadly, I am forced to take another year (3rd year) of Spanish in school, but next year I can apparently take German 1-2 as well, so I am really looking forward to that. And on Senior Year, I will also start taking French in the place of Spanish whilst taking another year of German. That is my story.

My grandmother (she was Dutch) was fluent in: German, French, Italian, English plus her own language, and also spoke a smattering of Russian. I think if she'd put her mind to it she could have learnt anything! She was teaching art in her 80's and studying a second diploma as well.. I think learning another language makes you more prone to opening your life to learning in many areas.
