I am persuing this endeavor of learning and eventually mastering the German language because I have applied for a foreign exchange scholarship. I will hopefully be departing in July of 2010, and staying in Germany for eleven months with a host family. That will be my Junior year of highschool, and I will be turning seventeen while I am there. I was afraid that learning a new language would be tedious work, turning me into a brain dead zombie, but all of my previous opinions have been infilitrated and destroyed, replaced by a feeling of... enjoyment! Indeed, learning a second language is fun! I admit, at times I feel a bit overwhelmed still, and the gap between my knowledge of the English language and what I know about the German language is a vast chasm. Will I ever achieve a mastery of Deutsch equal to my English? I certainly hope so, and with the building blocks that Rocket German is feeding me, combined with a year submerged in German culture, I am confident that it will come. Luckily, I also have a neighbor who lived in Germany for the first fifty years of her life, and I am able to practice with her. This is a wonderful perk, and I am able to get my accent just right because of her.
