Lesson 3.4 - another kind of ticket

OK, I can now speak relatively fluently when it comes to Fahrkarten... I know what Tagesfahrkarten are, and what Einzelfahrkarten are. I've been checking the transit website for where I'll be going - in which, fortunately, they call them tickets (of course, I'm on the English page!). (See below for what I copied from the website). But unfortunately, they have another kind of ticket! Can you please tell me what a "4erTicket" is? And why do they specifically say "for this trip"?? And assuming that it is a "4-way ticket", how long do I have to use up the 4 trips? Thanks. Judy 1. recommended ticket combination 2x EinzelTicket Erwachsene price: 18.60 € 2. recommended ticket combination 1x 4erTicket Erwachsene price: 31.50 € ( for this trip 15.75 € ) 3. recommended ticket combination 1x TagesTicket 1 Person price: 19.00 €

Hi Judy, a 4 er Ticket can be a ticket for up to four people, but it can also mean you get 4 single journey tickets. It's hard to know what the 4er Ticket is in this particular case, but if you could tell me the website ([email protected]) I will have a look and check it our for you. I assume it means you will get 4 single tickets which usually cost 31.50 euro, but in this case it's only 15.75 euro as the trip might be quite short. There are also 5 er Tickets and 10 er Tickets and in most cases it means that you get 5-10 single tickets, but because you buy them in one go you'll get them cheaper. I'll check it out for you. http://www.vrsinfo.de is all about the transit system. I've been using the English pages, trying to figure out how to get from Mechernich to Bonn.

Hi again, "Can you please tell me what a "4erTicket" is?" In this case a 4er Ticket is a ticket that you can use for four trips of the respective price level. The 4 er Ticket can also be used by several people at the same time. 4-Tickets may only be used for a certain period of time after their validation - depending on the price level (20 min-360 min). "And why do they specifically say "for this trip"??" The reason they say the price for this trip (return) is 15.75 is because you will only have to validate your 4 er Ticket (which costs 31.50) twice. With the 4 er Ticket you will basically be able to do the same trip twice. If you only want to go once it will be cheaper to use two single tickets or a day ticket. I hope that helps. Nathalie

I have come across the following website in trying to determine how to use the transit system to get me somewhere: http://www.euregio-ticket.com or, in Englich http://www.avv.de/web/hauptdrei/euregioticket.php?schriftgrad=76&sprache=2 My question has to do with the phrase "valid for one day until the end of the business day" Can you please tell me what is considered the "end of the business day"? Does that mean I have to get back home before suppertime? Or can I ride on that ticket into the evening? Thanks so much. Judy

Hi Judy, in your particular case "valid for one day until the end of the business day" means that your ticket is valid until the transport company stops operating that day. That might be as early as 6pm or as late as 11.30pm. Your ticket will be valid for as long as your bus/train is operating. The German sentence says "Betriebsschluß" which simply means "opening hours". Good luck! Nathalie
