zum, am, im etc

There could be something further along in the lessons but might there be a small chart showing when to use all these distinctions? Thought I got until I saw some differing forms. Like zum meaning something other than to the.

Otherwise, I am enjoying this thoroughly. Have any photos of yourselves?

Hello friend, I just wanted to say quickly, that I think in 6.1 there's Grammer explanations. Not completeley sure though. Anyhow, "zum,am,im, etc..." are in what's called the Dative case; the indirect object. It does mean "to the". Zum is short for zu dem (dem being the dative form of "the". Am = an dem ( at/on the), im= in the. Unfortunately only time and experience will help you know how to use it correctly. But don't be discouraged, just keep trying and it will become more clear, and by using it it will become second nature. There's even more to it than that, but I won't overload you. The number one thing I keep re-learning and I'm sure you know already; is the best action to learning a language is to speak it. I'm assuming the reason why most people have bought Rocket German. Because it helps you to speak pretty much instantaneously after the first lesson. Lots O' Luck to you! -Cooper
