Lieblich - lesson 4.4

The word given for sweet, as in sweet wine, is Lieblich. My translator says the meaning is delightfully. Please clarify.

Hi Harold,

thanks for your post. Very few words only have one meaning.
Most words have different meanings depending on the context.

If you say "lieblich" when talking about wine it means "sweet"
If you say "lieblich" when talking about music - it means "sweet", or "pleasant"
If you say "lieblich" when talking about a perfume - it means "sweet" or "delightful or "pleasant".

Another word for "sweet" is "süß".

Das Baby ist süß - The baby is sweet.
Obviously it doesn't mean that the baby tastes sweet, but it means that the baby is cute.

Languages are like that. A word can fit many situations and different contexts.
