I learned sugar as chinni while I was in India. What is the difference between chinni and shakkar?

I lived in and learned Hindi in Delhi. There the word used for sugar was chinni. I never heard shakkar.

Both are used,it depends on regions,area,influence...
I think one is hindu and the other is muslim (hindi/urdu origin).

i think that often in hindi the have two words that mean the same thing or one word that means a lot of things.mabe.

चीनी - cīnī as a noun, it means sugar, as an adjective it means Chinese.
शक्कर - shakkar - Sugar.I think this word is an English loanword.
We can use either cīnī or shakkar for sugar.
