What part of the lesson did you not understand?
Here below I try to explain them in a different way:

The pronouns are part of the speech which are often used to replace nouns (avoiding to repeat them again).
Exception is the subject pronoun.
In fact it doesn't replace any noun. It actually does the action.
Here they are:

-io (I) -noi (we)
-tu (you) -voi (you all)
-lui (he) -loro (they)
-lei (she)

Example : Io mangio una mela (I eat an apple)
"Io" is the subject eating the apple

As in English in a sentence you will find the subject,who does the action, and also the object who receives the action.
In the example above "la mela" (the apple) is the object.
So in this case
"io mangio la mela" (I eat the apple)
will become
io la mangio (I eat it)

The Italian direct object pronouns are:

-mi (me) -ci (us)
-ti (you) -vi (you all)
-lo (him,it) - li (them -masc./fem) )
-la (her,it) -le (them - polite)

An easy way to find out when to use a direct object pronoun is asking if they answer to the question : what? or who?

Example: io mango la mela (I eat the apple). I eat what? the apple

Please remember that a direct object pronouns goes before the verb.

Then we have the indirect pronouns.
They answer to the question "to whom?".

Example: Io telefono a Roberto (I phone -to- Roberto)
Io telefono a chi? (I phone to whom? Roberto)
it will become
Io gli telefono ("gli" stands for Roberto)

Here the indirect object pronouns:

-mi (to / for me) -ci (to / for us)
-ti (to / for you) -vi (to / for you)
-le (to / for you-m.f., polite) -loro (to / for them -plural, polite)
-gli / le (to / for him / her) -gli (to / for them -masc. and fem.)
