Ciao Maria.

I am confused please could you please explain why the "la" below in smettere di giocare?
I understand that the to command form for smettere di is smetti di, but I am not sure why la is being used.

Q2. Smettila di giocare e vieni a cena.
Stop playing and come for dinner.

Thanks very much

Dagmar

Ciao Dagmar,

the "la" at the end of the verb is a pronoun.
In Italian you say "smettila" when you want to say "smetti di fare quella cosa" ("stop to do that thing").
The pronoun "la" stands for "la cosa".
I hope this helps
ciao
