Conoscerti (verb + ti)

Hi. Is this method of adding the pronoun to the verb very common? With the example of conoscerti, conoscere + ti, do you always drop the final "e" when adding "ti"? If the example was more formal, would it be conoscere + lei, and you would get conoscerlei ? As a beginner I would immediately have used ti conosco for " know you" and would have crudely said "un piacere a ti conosco". Thanks Mike
