WHat is the difference between sto and sono. For example why is it sto bene (I am well) and sono stanca (I am tired) Why not sono bene?

Ciao Sk! The verb "stare" is manly used : -to form the present and past progressive form as "Sto andando al cinema" (I'm going to the cinema) -in idiomatic expressions as "come stai?" (how are you?). The reply will be using the adverbs "bene, male,meglio,peggio" -to indicate location as "Sono in cucina" (I'm in the kitchen) This is because in Italian, we can use stare in several ways that are make it more flexible than the verb "to stay" English. This helps quite a lot... BUT I am still confused because you put the following sentence: - to indicate location as "Sono in cucina" (I'm in the kitchen) in the section describing when to use "stare". So should indicating location be a function of essere? Thanks Mike
