The different conjugate

Ciao a tutti!

I have a question about the Conjugates of the word Mangiare. I would like to know if these are used often in spoken italian, and how to use them properly:

Passato remoto

io mangiai

tu mangiasti

lui mangiò

What is the difference between passato prossimo:

ho mangiato

hai mangiato

etc etc...

the conjugation is correct.

The tense "passato remoto" ( io mangiai) is not used much anymore.

It has been replaced by the "passato prossimo" (io ho mangiato).

present perfect is commonly used.}
Example:

io faccio = I make
io feci = I make (past)
io ho fatto = I have made (mostly used)
