Can someone please explain the difference between these two phrases(venga da and sono di) and the appropriate way to use them?

Ciao Antonia,
"Sono di" is the translation of "I'm from". It's usually the reply to the questions "Di dove sei?" ("where are you from?").
"Vengo da" means "I come from" and is the answer to the question "Da dove vieni?" ("where are you from?")
As you can see in Italian you can ask the "where are you from?" question in two different ways.
The answer will be either :
"Sono di Roma"="I'm from Rome"
"Vengo da Roma"="I come from Rome"
