Why is it gli alberi instead of i alberi. I thought you use gli when there is a Z or S with a consonant after it.

In any case the article "gli" is used in front of nouns starting by :
- gn as gli gnocchi
- pn as gli pneumatici
- ps as gli psicologi
- s+ another consonant as gli spazzini
- z as gli zoccoli
-vowel as gli uomini
