So ....?

Will someone please tell me if "cosi" can be translated in different ways? I've always thought it was "so" in all its forms, but are there more translations/usages?

Ciao Chuck,

"cosi" can have different meanings in Italian. Some of the most used are:

-"so" as for example
"lui non era in casa cosi' sono tornata a casa"= "he was not at home so I went back home"

-"like this" ("in this way") as for example:
"la finestra si apre cosi' "="the widows opens like this"

I hope this helps.

what is the difference between 'basta' and 'abbastanza"?
Maria DiLorenziTue, 03 May 2011 11:09:31 -0500
Grazie Phillip per il tuo messaggio!

"enough" in Italian can be translated in two different ways:

-"basta" is more used for a command, to tell someone to stop doing something.

Example:
"basta cosi'" (that's enough)

-"abbastanza" is more used with the meaning of "sufficiently"

Example:
"Roberto sta abbastanza bene" (Roberto is well enough)

I hope this helps.

Ciao
