to hear and to listen?

need some help plz. :? When would i use sentire (to hear)and ascoltare(to listen) in a italian sentence?

Ciao afunnykorean, The verb "ascoltare" means "to listen" (as to pay auditive attention" to something) while "sentire" is the translation of "to hear". For example: -Io ascolto la musica (I listen to music) -Ieri ho sentito gli uccelli cantare (Yesterday I heard the birds singing) I hope this helps ! :D All the best for your Italian learning!
