I am VERY much a beginner so please bear with me. When do you use voglio and when do you vorrei?

Ciao Becky, This is how the difference was explained to me. As you know voglio is I want and vorrei is I would like. When requesting, or asking for something, vorrei is the polite way to ask as voglio could sound a bit demanding, impolite. I want a cafè or I would like a cafè per favore. Voice tone obviously has a bit to do with it also. I hope this helps you. Fran
