I am in Kanazawa Japan as I write this, visiting a non-Japanese friend. My sister paints in watercolor, and has asked me to look for a nice Japanese watercolor painting, or maybe any special watercolor painting supplies (brushes, etc.) that might be special to Japan. Does anyone know if there are art supply stores commonly found in mid-sized cities like Kanazawa? Any ideas or suggestions where to find artwork/supplies? ARE there special brushes, etc. to be found in Japan that would not be common in America?

I was reading a cultural book a teacher lent me on Japan and there are some brushes that are specific to certain areas of Japan, however I can't remember what types and where :(.
