Konnichiwa, hajime mashite. Watashi no namae wa Freddie desu. I am new to RJ and enjoying it very much! I would like to travel to Japan in 1-2 years time on a working holiday visa which allows you to stay for up to a year. Do you know what sort of job I would be able to do? I was thinking of working in an English bar is that something that may be possible? Are you expected to be fluent in Japanese to work in an English bar? I do hope I can be good by then but will not have had the practice of living in the country! I'm also not sure if it is common for foreigners to live in Japan for say a year and work in a bar or if there is another route I should take. I do not think I could be a English teacher as I do not have a degree, and doubt I would be a very good teacher anyway  Arigato. Sayonara!

Hello! I wish best for you to get into Japan! I plan going as soon as literally possible. Saving $$ is what it's all about at the moment. Idk bout the english bar, but if you learn to speak Japanese fluently, I'm sure you could be a teacher! I mean, translating sounds like a lot of fun, even though I do hear it's stressful sometimes! :]

Freddie-san, Konnichiwa! Welcome to Rocket Japanese! We are delighted to have you on board as we journey together in learning Japanese. Typically, English-speakers get English-teaching jobs quite easily in Japan. However, if you'd like to take another route when staying in Japan - you could try some ski-resorts where they seem to (quite often) hire foreigners to work temporarily (at bar, restaurant, out in the snow!). If you'd like to work in a 'Japanese' environment, then having basic Japanese speaking ability is essential as many Japanese do not speak English well. There are many opportunities as a foreigner in Japan (if you speak English, more!) so I hope you find the best job there. -Sayaka :P
