I haven't tried sushi either...

The program I'm going on foreign exchange with is Rotary. It's a really nice and cheap/affordable program that pays for almost everything but the plane tickets and your hotel stays when you go to orientations. It costs about $5k to go abroad via Rotary + General living expenses (like clothes and stuff although they give you a monthly allowance).

Another program I've heard of is YFU.

There are more out there, but those are two really good programs that are very credible.

Happy Exchange Hunting!

Konnichiwa!

Well, as a Japanese myself -
すしはうまい!
SUSHI is DELICIOUS!

By far my favorite food.

If you can get over the idea of "raw fish" being - yuk - and close your eyes - and just have a bite of sushi - hopefully you'll see what I'm talking about.

You can start by trying the kinds you're familiar with, like Salmon is a big hit amongst foreigners.

When in Japan, you MUST hit one of the -100yen Kaiten-zushi bars (100yen Sushi-train bars). Yes, it's 100 yen per pair of sushi. Well, 105 with tax. In these places, you can get all sorts of 'non-traditional' toppings- like tuna-salad, hamburger, and even, fried chicken -- all on top of a little ball of Sushi rice.

I've had SUSHI plenty of times between now and like 8 months ago. I just LOVE it! Tho, I've only had 1 kind. I don't know what kind it was but I guess I should try different kinds to choose my favorite kind.

There is plenty of Sushi (cheap) places around Japan. Kaiten-zushi (sushi-train places) are probably the best, since you can choose what you want from a variety of choices.

My favourite Sushi is HAMACHI (yellowtail) - it's delicious. If you can eat eel - you can eat the other Sushi Keyatta-san!

I had sushi a few times while I was in Japan... IT WAS AWESOME! At first, since it was my first experience eating raw fish, I didn't entirely enjoy it, but now I love it.

デレックさん、
I believe that Japanese food can be an acquired taste... many foreigners cannot eat NATTO なっとう for example - have you tried it? It took my friend a year to get used to TOFU とうふ... or understand why the Japanese people eat ROOTS of veggies, like RENKON れんこん.

It's all part of the culture!
Enjoy!

I really wanna like sushi, just because it's japanese but I just can't seem to like it!! Does anyone have any recomendations for sushi that I might like?? I think the main things that put me off is wasabi or pickled stuff (e.g. pickled ginger)... thanks! ^_^
