Tattoo's and missing fingers, is my visit to Japan doomed?

This isn't a language question but one about Japanese culture. I hope to live and work in Japan as an English teacher hopefully within the next 3 years. The problem is, is I'm very heavily tattooed with traditional Japanese tattoo (most of my upper body and thighs) also I'm due to have my right little finger amputated (several failed surgeries and this is last resort, it's complicated). I know enough about Japanese culture to know that tattoo and severed fingers are somewhat taboo and associated with criminals. I've never actually been to Japan so I don't know just how much of a problem this would be for me. Even though this isn't a language question I reasoned that some people using Rocket Japanese must have similar plans regarding visiting and working in Japan and may have more knowledge on the culture than I do. If anyone has any advice for me I would be grateful. Thank you.

Musashi-san! Konnichiwa! Your question brings me images of...yakuza's, Japan's notorious mafia in Japan!! I can warn you that many businesses in Japan, like public baths, still ban customers with tattoos. However, saying that, tattooing is gaining popularity amongst the Japanese young people, though they tend to choose "one point" small designs. As a Japanese, (of the young generation) I can tell you that tattooing still has a bit of a "criminal" "bad-boy" sign, but for those that are into it, it's definitely a respectful Japanese art. Don't worry though... Japanese love foreigners, and if you got tattoo all over your body, you'll be the center of attention! Some girls may consider you "kakkoii!!" "Cool!" About your missing finger... like in any country, people may ask you about it, but I'm sure you've got a great story behind it, and it may be a great way to break the ice! So, NO!! Your visit to Japan will be nothing near to Doomed!! It will be NEW and EXCITING! Have a GREAT TIME!! :D
