I'd like to introduce the 4 basic verb forms in Japanese: __*Dictionary form*__ :D Also known as *Informal* or *Plain* form: It's called the "Dictionary form" because this is the word you see in dictionaries. In English, it would be "go" "watch" "eat", kind of like the infinitive of the verb, without the "to". It's also called the "Informal form" because it's used when speaking to friends, family, or any casual situation. Here are some Dictionary/Informal form verbs: *TABERU* : _"[I] eat"_ *MIRU* : _"[I] watch"_ *ASOBU* : _"[I] play"_ __*Negative form*__ :lol: This is just the opposite of the Dictionary form... *tabeNAI* : _"[I] don't eat"_ *miNAI* : _"[I] don't watch"_ *asobaNAI* : _"[I] don't play"_ __*Stem form*__ :shock: The shortest form of verbs. Warning: It can't be used by itself! You'll use this form when attaching it to verb suffixes that suggest tense or other conditions. So, it's the TABE part in TABERU, or MI part in MIRU. Here are some examples: *TABE + masu* : _"I eat" (affirmative present polite) _ *TABE + nagara* : _"while eating"_ *TABE + nikui *: _"it's hard to eat"_ *TABE + sugiru* : *"I over eat"* __*Te-form*__ :P It's called the TE-form because its the verb that ends in TE or DE. This form is often combined with other verbs. When it's by itself, like TABETE! or MITE!, it's an informal request. *tabeTE kita* : _"I've eaten"_ *miTE kuru *:_"I'll go check" "I'll go see"_ *asonDE kimashita* : _"I have played"_
