I'm confused about how to use ii and na adjectives in for instance "look at that small black cat". Do you say chisakutte kuroi neko or chisana kuroi neko. Also is it kuroi neko or kuro neko.

Modification of post (wrote sth wrong, sorry): Well, the first thing is to be able to differentiate the い adjectives from the な adjectives. The い adjectives all finish in simple い, not an い in a sound (group as: ri, hi, bi, ni, ki). The rest are な adjective, even if they finish in い, that one it's not on it's own as a vocal. Here chiisai finishes in simple い, so it's and い-adjective: cut down the い and add -kute => chiisakute. As an counter-example: benri (= convenient) - it ends in い, but it's not as a single vocal, it's part of a compound sound: り (ri) =>　な-adejctive => -te form = benride (for these adjective you simply add "de").
