I was texting my friend and I told him how I plan to move to Japan in the future. Well I asked what city he visited (he recently went there last summer to learn abroad) and he said Kanazawa...So I wanted to show him I learned a bit of Japanese myself, so I asked "o Kanazawa wa suki desu ka?"...He told me I said the city likes him. I told him that i put wa to make the city the subject and ka to make it a question. He said he has to work at the moment and will explain later. I was just hoping for a reply in here soon so maybe I could know the REAL answer. He did go there to learn the language and has more hands-on experience than I. Of course I need the REAL and ACCURATE information if I'm going to live there :] Thank you.

Konnichiwa! I must say you are correct in asking: *Kanazawa wa suki desu ka?* for _Do you like Kanazawa?_ You don't need the *O* before *Kanazawa*. You can also ask: _How was Kanazawa?_ *Kanazawa wa dou deshita ka?* To say _"Kanazawa likes you"_ as your friend thought you said, you need to say: *Kanazawa wa anata no koto ga sukidesu. * or *Kanazawa wa anato o sukidesu. * Which doesn't quite make sense (how could a city like someone...) So, you're doing great with your Japanese! Gambare! Keep it up! :D

arigatou! I have much more to learn! Just concerning the O, that has confused me for awhile. I listened to the lessons for it, but was still quite confused about it. How do I know when to exactly use it? :]

Minnasan konnichiwa, I have had similar issues concerning the O before some words. I would love to hear a breif explanation myself. I recently met someone from Japan to do a language exchange with but due to the time difference and works schedules, there can be quite a delay in us getting back to each other with questions. Roger

thank you for the response! Wasnt so bad, I get to study Japanese while at work so it passes the time and I get to learn something I always wanted too. I just found a local Japanese tutor as well, so hopefully this will take care of many of my questions and speed things along. thank you again.
