Hi Tim, Konbanwa means "good evening", you can also say "Konnichiwa" for "good afternoon" or "good day".

Hi, I just started this course and find it really interesting. I was studying a few words and actually learned konban wa. I was then flipping through channels and saw Memoirs of a Gheisha and heard one of the girls say konban wa. That was great as I know what it meant. Not bad for a beginner eh?
