Flashcards

First, I would like to say that I am bummed that the games are gone and how depressing the flashcards are. The Know It section functioned basically the same as the flashcards except it was not clunky and dreary. But I suppose that doesn't matter now seeing as the whole site is so sterile and drab. Even the new badge designs look like barf.

Sorry, I needed to get that out. Now for an actual point.

The Russian side of the flashcards is using a handwritten type. I can't imagine why this would be intentional seeing as there is no lesson on those particular symbols. Is this going to be changed in the future or is there a reason for this?

Thanks,

Hi David,

Thank you for your feedback, it's much appreciated.  We are planning to add more functionality to the Flashcards in the near future, so I'm sure you will find them a welcome replacement for the games.  In the meantime, please be assured that the font on the flashcards is not handwriting, but is in Italics. I can speak to the developers about changing this if you are finding the letters too difficult to read.

The Russian italics are based on their cursive so the letters like the Russian T which looks like the English T looks like a cursive M. Apparently you couldn't be bothered to actually check into this and instead insinuated that I might be a retard. Thanks for spitting in my face, really appreciate it.

Hi David,

Thank you for your reply.  My apologies for any offence caused. Before my initial response, I had consulted with the Russian team, who confirmed for me that the font was italicised, and was not handwritten. I have asked the website team to change the font of the Flashcards so that they are no longer italicised, but I don't think this will correct the issue in your case.  It sounds more like an issue with the browser and how it displays the letters?  I have tried replicating the problem in a number of browsers, but each time have been able to view the letters correctly.  I recommend sending the Customer Support team a screenshot, as well as some information on the browser/OS you are using so that they can try and determine the cause of the problem. They can be reached at support @ rocketlanguages.com.

All the best.

йй  тт  дд  вв  гг  ии ---Here are 6 pairs of letters, not copied and pasted but typed here, first normally then italicized. Are you seeing 12 different symbols or 6 with the other half leaning? I use FireFox but it is the same in Opera as well.

In my initial post I was not aware that this was a result of italics. I was only familiar with these symbols from handwritten Russian. I don't think it is a bad thing to learn these symbols for their own sake but juxtaposed with the normal script from the main course it is hard to see how this isn't adding a layer of confusion.

I would think that removing the italics would solve this issue but I don't understand how this is not showing up for you across a number of browsers.

I can't copy and paste from the flashcards for some reason but here are some examples of why I think this is confusing:

здравствуйте-здравствуйте
ты-ты
мы-мы

I am seeing 12 different symbols using the Chrome browser.

Thanks Robert, I just tried this on my iphone and the letters are not changed when italicized. I'm guessing this issue doesn't occur with a Mac OS otherwise they would have seen it on Chrome.

It is really interesting to look at my posts and clearly see what I am talking about only to check it on my phone and look nuts.

Hi David and Robert,

My apologies for the delay in responding.  I just wanted to let you know that the italicised font in the Rocket Russian flashcards has been removed.  Please try them again, and if you continue to have trouble, please don't hesitate to let us know.

All the best!
