Sorry for the scratchy sounds-like-it-was-ripped-from-vinyl beginning, but they all seem to start that way.

In my opinion Linda Ronstadt had the second-best voice in modern American music.
Blue Bayou is my favorite Roy Orbison song.
Translated and sung in Spanish, what more could one ask for?

Great stuff, guys. Thanks! I was totally ignorant of Linda Ronstadt's background...

Growing up, she listened to many types of music, including Mexican music, which was sung by her entire family and was a staple in her childhood.

Steven: Karen Carpenter did have a good voice, but my Numero Uno is Patsy Cline.

Hola a todos,

I might add that at the top of the link I posted, Linda Ronstadt is in concert singing the songs from Canciones de mí padre. Dan, I too love Patsy Cline and you might want to search out Mandy Barnett who is a fantastic vocalist much influenced by Patsy. Karen Carpenter, just wonderful! I have so many favorites it would be difficult to make a short list.

I have the CD of Canciones de mi Padre but frankly, as much as I love Linda Ronstadt, I just can't warm up to that album.

I love Linda Ronstadt's songs and she has a great voice.

James: unfortunately she had a great voice. She apparently is suffering from Parkinson's Disease and can no longer sing. A great loss to her and to those of us who loved her voice.
